Valentine’s at the Zoo

Last week my partner and I went to the Denver Zoo for Valentine’s Day! I happened to have my Sony a6100 in my bag, so I brought it along to catalog our journey.

Our favorite section was called Tropical Discovery – an indoor section with lots of fish, frogs, and reptiles! It was a nice refuge from the cold weather, which we were not expecting or prepared for.

I think this turtle was the best picture I ended up taking on the day. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name of this animal, we were pretty freaked out by its eyes. They’re very strange and scary, but so are a lot of water creatures!

We got very lucky after eating lunch, they were doing a training demonstration with one of the tigers. She was very pretty, and very big! It was neat to see how they interact with the animals, and to learn how they train the animals to be easier to work with when they need to.

My partner was also very excited to go see the monkeys and lemurs, and it was very fun to see them! A lot of them were very good at taking pictures. It was pretty dark inside that building, so I didn’t get as many as I wanted.

And then finally there were the birds! I was excited about these, but there weren’t too many out on the day, maybe because of the weather. There were a lot of ducks out, which I was excited about!! And a huge condor, which was honestly very scary. It seemed like it was about to turn around and deliver us a bad omen…

Overall it was a very nice visit! We’ll probably go back in the summer, when more of the animals are outside and I can bring a slightly longer lens. If you’re in town, or if you haven’t been in a while, I recommend going to the Denver Zoo! Everyone we talked to was very nice and knowledgeable about their animals. Thanks for reading!
